Alexandrian Witchcraft: Mystery, Power and the Enduring Legacy of Alex and Maxine Sanders (working title)
To commemorate the centenary of the birth of Alex Sanders, one of the most influential figures in modern witchcraft, a landmark publication is scheduled for release in 2026. This scholarly volume brings together four leading figures: William Wallworth, genealogist and occultist; Maxine Sanders, co-founder of the Alexandrian Tradition; Dr John Callow, historian, author and occultist; and Sharon Day, historian, author and occultist. In a unique collaboration, they examine the origins, development and ongoing significance of the Alexandrian Tradition of Witchcraft.
Spanning a century of cultural transformation, from the countercultural movements of the 1960s to the complexities of the digital age, the book explores how the tradition has adapted, evolved, and maintained its influence within broader esoteric and spiritual contexts. Through a combination of historical scholarship and first-hand reflection, this study traces the evolution of a movement that continues to shape modern occult thought and practice.
Central to the work is the newly compiled genealogical research of William Wallworth, alongside personal reflections from Maxine Sanders. Many of these recollections are published here for the first time. They are presented and critically contextualised by Dr John Callow and Sharon Day, who situate them within a wider historical and cultural framework.
This forthcoming volume will offer a significant contribution to the study of contemporary witchcraft and the modern Western esoteric tradition, shedding new light on the legacy of Alex and Maxine Sanders and the enduring resonance of Alexandrian Witchcraft.
The volume will be available in three editions; Fine and Deluxe, both Limited; and Standard Hardcover.

The Authors

William Wallworth
William Wallworth—also known in occult circles as “The Exile”—is a genealogist and independent occult researcher specializing in historical figures from the esoteric and witchcraft traditions. Known for his detailed, record-based reports, his work has appeared in The Cauldron and in Victor H. Anderson, the American Shaman (2017). William’s research blends investigative rigor with a deep respect for the past.

Maxine Sanders
Maxine Sanders, born 30 December 1946, is a revered Priestess of the Sacred Mysteries and co-founder of the Alexandrian Tradition of Witchcraft. From a young age, she was immersed in spiritual practice—becoming the youngest Westerner to be Opened in Subud at 15, studying with John G. Bennett, and engaging with the teachings of Gurdjieff. These experiences guided her toward a lifelong path in the occult and ritual magic. While often associated with her former husband Alex Sanders, Maxine’s influence extends far beyond their shared legacy; she has inspired generations of initiates through her own teaching, grounded in the ever-evolving wisdom of the Goddess.

John Callow
John Callow is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Suffolk, who has written widely on Witchcraft and Manx History. His books include The Last Witches of England (Bloomsbury); Embracing the Darkness: A Cultural History of Witchcraft (I.B. Tauris); and (with Geoffrey Scarre) Witchcraft and Magic in Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century Europe (Palgrave Macmillan).

Sharon Day
Sharon Day is a Priestess of Alexandrian Witchcraft and leads the Coven of the Stag King. She is the author of The Witch as Psychopomp: Dr Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and Dion Fortune meet Maxine Sanders' Temple of the Mother (Rose Ankh Publishing). She speaks regularly on Alexandrian Witchcraft and the role of the witch as psychopomp, sharing both personal experience and a deep love of the tradition.
